Sabrina Lin Wins Athersys Travel Award
Athersys Corporation has generously provided travel support for a UCR student to attend the International Stem Cell Research Meetings in Philadelphia this June. Sabrina Lin was chosen by the Awards Committee to be the recipient of the Athersys award this year. Sabrina has submitted an abstract which she will present on her stem cell work dealing with assessment of toxicity of cigarette smoke using stem cell assays.

Melissa Petreaca (Graduate Student in the Martins-Green Lab) wins prestigous 3-M Post-Doctoral Scholarship
The award was given based on a proposal Melissa submitted to continue her work on the role of VEGF as a key players in terminating inflammation. She was selected by a panel of scientists who evaluated all of the proposals submitted and that gave her the highest score. This prestigous award is often awarded to Senior Post-Doctoral Scientist.
